April 16, 2024Electronic sports, otherwise, popularly known as “Esports,” are quickly taking over a generation. The new form of competition utilizes video games, and has players go head-to-head in multiplayer video games, either individually or as a team.
This new multi-billion-dollar industry has millions of fans worldwide and has gained popularity thanks to streaming services like YouTube and Twitch, which allow viewers to watch their favorite gamers play in real time.
This new form of entertainment has quickly become a staple in the culture of today’s society, and it has even moved into being taught and studied at schools.
Esports can be a great way to help students improve digital literacy and provide an outlet to build upon science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) skills. Playing Esports can develop STEAM skills as well as critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation, collaboration and teamwork, judgement formation, and communication skills.
